Privacy Policy

Skotantrx ("we", "us", "our") operates the Pālan driver behaviour intelligence platform, available as a web application at skotantrx.com and as a mobile progressive web app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Summary: We collect only what's needed to analyse the trips you record and give you a driving score with advice. Your data is stored and processed only in India. Raw video is deleted after 10 days. Pālan's observations are advisory: they are never a finding that a law was broken. You can delete your account and data at any time.

What we do NOT collect

We do not access your contacts, messages, call logs, or browsing history
We do not use the front-facing camera, so the people inside the vehicle are not filmed (only the back camera, facing the road)
We do not record audio
We do not track your location outside of active trip recording

2. How we use your data

Trip analysis: Process dashcam video, GPS and motion data to detect road signs, traffic signals and driving events
Your score and advice: Create trip reports, your Pālan Score, a breakdown by road rule and tips on how to drive better
Trip history: Show your past trips and reports
Safety insights: Identify patterns in driving behaviour over time
Service improvement: Improve our AI detection models using anonymised, aggregated data (never individual trips)

3. Advisory, not enforcement

Pālan's observations are automated and advisory, meant to help you drive more safely. They are not a finding that any law was broken. Only a competent authority (traffic police, RTO, or a court) can decide that. Detection can be wrong; if an observation looks incorrect, tell us at privacy@skotantrx.com.

4. Face and number plate blurring

All faces and vehicle number plates captured in dashcam footage are automatically blurred before any image is displayed in reports or on the platform. Raw video containing unblurred faces/plates is processed on our servers and deleted within 10 days. The one exception is the plate photo you take of your own vehicle (section 1), which is kept unblurred so it can be checked, and is seen only by the vehicle's owner and our administrators.

Raw recordings: raw trip recordings are permanently deleted 10 days after recording and cannot be recovered. If you need a copy, or need footage kept longer (for example for an insurance claim or legal matter), contact us at privacy@skotantrx.com within those 10 days.

6. Data storage and security

Location: All user data is stored on servers located in India (Amazon Web Services, Hyderabad region)
Encryption: All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). Passwords are hashed using bcrypt
Access control: Only authorised personnel can access user data, and only for service operation and support
Handled only in India: Your personal data is stored and processed only on our servers in India. The app connects directly to those servers over an encrypted connection; no other company in between opens or processes your data
Email: If you ask us to email a report, it is sent through our email provider

7. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only in these circumstances:

Anonymised and aggregated data: We may use anonymised, aggregated driving pattern data (with no personal identifiers) for research, safety insights, or partnership purposes. This data cannot be traced back to any individual
Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or government authority
With your explicit consent: Your score belongs to you. If you choose to share it or a report with an employer, transport company, driving school, insurer or other organisation, we do so only with your express consent, and you can withdraw it

8. Your rights (Data Principal rights under DPDPA)

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right to access: See your trips, reports and score in the app, and ask us for a copy of all data we hold about you
Right to correction: Update or correct your personal information
Right to erasure: Delete your account and all associated data ("Delete my account" in the app)
Right to withdraw consent: Revoke consent for data collection at any time (this may limit service functionality)
Right to grievance redressal: File a complaint with our Grievance Officer or the Data Protection Board of India
Right to nominate: Nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity

9. Children's data

Pālan is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from persons under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage (not cookies) to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (your vehicles, language). This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics scripts.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
